https://www.incose.org/symp2011/ The International symposium of INCOSE is in its 21st year leading the way into the future with the largest Systems Engineering event in 2011. The International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) is a not-for-profit membership organization founded in 1990. Our mission is to share, promote and advance the best of systems engineering from across the globe for the benefit of humanity and the planet. Continue your professional development by being on the cutting edge of Systems Engineering technology. There are 35 paper sessions with 96 papers (including invited papers from SoS experts & IEEE colleagues), 6 panels debating various unresolved issues, 16 practical tutorials and 4 leading keynote speakers and so much more. Join us and experience the following: Interact one-on-one with leading practitioners, researchers and educators Attend paper presentations Participate in Panels Competence building Tutorials Get involved with Working Groups Stay current on Best Practices Learn about Certification Network with colleagues and make new connections Receive Proceedings and conference bag Technical Program and Professional Development 4 Industry-acclaimed keynote speakers 96 Technical paper presentations 12 Poster Presentations 6 Panels 16 Tutorials Up to 38 INCOSE working group meetings 2 Offsite technical tours Academic Forum Youth Engineering Education Outreach Program Additional Poster Presentations from Students & Exhibitors Various Awards Given Networking, Social and Cultural Activities INCOSE Symposium Banquet, Denver Center for Performing Arts Exhibition Hall Open Daily Over a dozen catered breakfast, lunch and social hour receptions Post Conference June 24: Tour of Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics Tour of National Renewable Energy Lab TECHNICAL PROGRAM 1) PAPER PRESENTATIONS 96 paper presentations represent a diverse range of systems engineering experiences & methods: * The latest Systems Engineering best practices from diverse sectors including Government, Defense, Security, Transportation, Information, Communications, Health, Energy and Consumer Products. * State-of-the-Art Systems Engineering methodologies including those addressing System of Systems, Model Based Systems Engineering, System Architecture, Requirements, Systems Thinking, Risk, Decision Making and Project Planning. * Systems Engineers from IEEE are invited to present a full day of papers on Wednesday. * Special sessions will be provided on Tuesday & Wednesday for System of Systems topics. Each presentation includes 10 minutes for interaction between the author and audience. Additional poster presentations allow each author to discuss aspects of her/his paper face-to-face. 2) PANELS & ROUNDTABLES 6 panels provide a venue where the global leaders in Systems Engineering will debate, discuss, and interact with the audience on the following topics of interest: * People Or Process: Which Is More Important? * I Know What I Want! Supply Chain Views On Delivering Requirements * Hard Skills Not So Effective? Increase Soft Skills For S.E. Success * Integrating M.B.S.E. Into A Multi-Disciplinary Engineering Environment * Is System Security Engineering Failing? If So, What Can System Engineering Do About It? * Is Requirements Engineering Really Necessary? * A Specially Invited Panel on Energy Systems * Transportation Industry Roundtable * A Plenary Roundtable on System of Systems 3) TUTORIALS For participants arriving early, a selection of tutorials that provide broad and fundamental training for Systems Engineers is scheduled for the Saturday & Sunday. Many tutorial topics are available during the symposium that will appeal to Systems Engineers at every level of experience. * Prepare For SE Certification With An INCOSE Tutorial * Modeling With SysML * What Forest? All I See Are These SE Trees! * Simple Techniques For Applying Systems Engineering Principles When Youre New To The Game * Requirements Engineering For Contract Based Systems * Requirements Engineering For Processes And Tooling * Systems Architecting And Program Management With The Design Structure Matrix * Scenario-Based Requirements Engineering Facilitating Interaction Design * Bias Amelioration In Tradeoff Studies * Thinking Outside The Box - In Systems Engineering And Integration * Establishing And Using A Risk Management Program Effectively * Synergistic Model-Based Systems Engineering With SysML And O.P.M. * Architecture Frameworks & Modeling * Systems Architecting: A Business Perspective * On Principles Of Complex Systems Engineering - Complex Systems Made Simple * Defining Operational Concepts Using SysML: System Definition From The Human Perspective * Engineering Requirements In Product Lines * A Simple Prescription For Requirements Success * A Specially Invited System of Systems Tutorial 4) ACADEMIC FORUM The Academic Forum is an excellent opportunity to engage in a dialogue on the issues of primary importance to INCOSE and the ongoing relevance of systems engineering as a discipline and a practice. On Tuesday afternoon there will be two consecutive sessions for the Academic Forum including a focus on undergraduate programs and integrated systems thinking. On Wednesday afternoon there will be two more consecutive sessions for the Academic Forum including a focus on the Graduate Reference Curriculum to Advance Systems Engineering and on the Accreditation of Systems Engineering programs. 5) YOUTH ENGINEERING EDUCATION OUTREACH & STUDENT DIVISION SESSIONS These very important sessions focus on how to develop future Systems Engineers. On Wednesday morning the workshop theme is the Inquiry Based Education methodology. The afternoon continues with a session related to the US Department of Education Standardization and a panel discussion from various universities with INCOSE Student Division programs. Also, the INCOSE special award winner from the International Science and Engineering Fair will be introduced and present their project.
